Ascend - NCFE
NCFE, a National Awarding Body for Vocational Qualifications
was keen to ensure that the training programme they purchased fit
the needs of all staff involved, and so started the process with
MAP, a management competency diagnostic, for both senior and middle
managers.
MAP (Managerial Assessment Proficiency) highlighted individual
and organisational management competency strengths and areas of
development. Some of the outcomes endorsed managers understanding
of their own strengths and development areas: "Broader
understanding of my own style, strengths and weaknesses" and others
came up with new areas to consider.
"Having my skills and competencies benchmarked against an
international standard has given me confidence in my abilities, and
raised my awareness of development needs".
When the outcomes of MAP were collated, a management development
programme was arranged to progress individual and organisational
development. The programme was run in-house and the dates and times
to suit the client. The content was flexed to include some of
NCFE's own practices and documentation. The feedback from the
programme demonstrated that all the needs identified had been
met.
"The discussion that was around NCFE's approach was most useful.
It made me think differently about how I tackle situations. It has
given me a toolkit to use in the workplace."
"NCFE was delighted that the training has strengthened the
skills and knowledge of the management team, as well as their
evidence against Indicator 4 (Leadership and Management Strategy)
and 5 (Management Effectiveness) of the investors in People
Standard". They were awarded the Investors in People Standard in
2001 and have been regularly reviewed since.
"I found the staff at ANE very knowledgeable and supportive
throughout the planning and delivery of the MAP Assessments. The
assessments provided a platform for ongoing individual development
for our management and provided tailored topics for follow up
workshops".
"The process is supported at all stages and the team are
great"!
