Managing Equality and Diversity course, a roaring success!
A second ILM Level 4 course in managing equality
and diversity in the workplace was held in August, after strong
success and positive feedback from the
first.
The qualification has
been designed to help current or future managers understand
the impact of values, beliefs, attitudes and prejudices on
workplace behavior and relations. This will then help to develop an
understanding of their responsibility in promoting and managing
diversity within their organisation, and enable them to become
'champions' within the workplace.
The qualification, accredited by the
Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM), offers an up-to-date
look at the Equality Act 2010 and the impact this could have on
traditional workplace practices.
Since the first course, held in June,
the feedback from participants has been extremely positive, with
changes already being implemented within their organisations, and
results being seen.
Vivienne Burns, Quality Manager at Milltech, was among
several to recommend the course
"Completing the course, and the assessment in
particular, has helped me to focus on my workplace in the context
of equality and diversity. This has enabled me to consider
the staff development activities needed to influence cultural
change and manage equality and diversity more effectively," she
said.
Karen Govier, Diversity and Inclusion Manager of MITIE
Group PLC, said the course "gave me a great deal to think about -
the trainer was excellent and they were great people to work
with."
Margaret Robson, Manager of North West Durham Rural
Community Care, added that it was "very
informative."
The ILM Level 4 course is a
single-unit taught qualification, and following the two-day taught
element, participants will be given a work-based assignment to
complete, supported by a trainer who will carry out one-to-one
tutorials.
During the course participants are
given free ILM studying membership that, for six months, allows
them to download study materials and to access information and
resources from the ILM online library.
Two more courses are scheduled
for October and November - on October 26/27 and
November 9/10 and places are still available.
The growing awareness of the Equality
Act 2010 and the increasing emphasis being placed on compliance by
regulating and licensing authorities means that many organisations
need to take their duties more seriously. For some it is
difficult to know where to start. The course aims to give
individuals this guidance and the information needed make a
start. Having a qualified individual in your organsation is
also a very postive message to any public authority about
your organisation.
