Managerial Assessment of ProficiencyTM (MAPTM)
What is MAPTM?
For the past two decades, Managerial Assessment of
ProficiencyTM (MAPTM) has been used by
organisations worldwide to provide an
objective analysis of the competencies, styles and
skills of managers. Through the process, each individual's
profile is compared to the database of existing results, providing
a unique benchmark of the individual against over
90,000 previous participants.
How does it benefit individuals?
The MAPTM process provides managers with insight,
stimulation and focus.
The first step in any personal development is
an awareness of existing strengths and weaknesses, and
MAPTM achieves this within a safe environment. The
experience is invigorating, equipping participants
with knowledge about themselves and an understanding of the
competencies required by effective managers.
Focus is achieved by building upon the knowledge gained through
the development of the individual development plan. This
assists manages to structure their personal development towards
specific and realistic goals.
How does it benefit my organisation?
MAPTM enables organisations to target
management training and development in those areas where
it will be most beneficial and evaluate the impact
such activities have upon participants.
Where a number of managers from an organisation participate in
MAPTM, managerial competence can be profiled by team or
division as well as individually, to assist with management
development and succession planning.
The benchmarking tool facilitates continuous
improvement programmes as targets can be set against norms
for the organisation's industry groups.
How does it work?
The programme has three stages:
- Assessment
- Development planning
- Re-assessment
The first two stages take place over two days,
during which participants are assessed to achieve an
individual management profile and receive
assistance with the interpretation of these results and planning a
response to the findings.
The assessment takes the form of a video
role-play simulation during which the participant is asked
to respond to a series of situations in a fictitious
organisation. The responses are computer scored against 12
management competencies and the participant's overall management
style, communication style and personal style are analysed.

On day two of the programme the participant
works with an advisor to interpret their results, taking account of
the benchmarking comparisons, and prepare an individual development
plan to build on the findings.
Participants then take ownership for their
development plan and return for a re-assessment after an agreed
interval to evaluate the development they have undertaken and the
impact it has made upon their profile.
